Dear members,
I’m very sorry about the problems we encountered during yesterday’s registration process and for the frustration it caused you, our members. Yesterday’s level of service fell well below our customer service standards. We value your support and membership very highly, and do not take the situation lightly.
While we carefully diagnose the problems, our immediate next step is to come up with a plan to rectify the situation as best we can for all those who tried to register for RSVP but couldn’t. Because RSVP is a “limited” rider event and is currently sold out, our team is already investigating a number of options. You can expect a follow-up announcement from us by next week, hopefully sooner.
However, with this said, we will certainly correct the system for next year.
Thank you for your continued patience and support of the Cascade Bicycle Club.
Chuck Ayers
Executive Director

I will not be “renewing” my membership.
I have my own “sag wagon/suport car”
I WILL now do all rides with the past years bib#’s( for maraton Photo computer I.D. )
And will ride with all of the on “OUR” public roads with everyone else and still have a blast.
What a bunch of whiners. Take your fancy bikes to Haiti or Darfur and see how far your whining takes you there! Honestly people, if you want to change something, then be part of the solution. I agree with one of the comments which said to give registration priority first to the CBC volunteers. Or how about only people who have volunteered for CBC in the last 12 months can sign up, then it’s first come first serve via snail mail. That would undoubtedly solve the registration “crisis” because its always 10% who do 90% of the work….
After our frustration trying get registered for RSVP and finally succeeding, we didn’t realize that this was only the first roadblock.
Now I’m calling for a hotel room in Bellingham and I’m being told that the Days Inn (official bag drop) would like me to pay $190 for a motel room and the Best Western Heritage Inn (also an official bag drop) has a 2-night minimum stay policy for that weekend, because they don’t want bicyclists to book up all rooms for just one night. And I am being told that they don’t even know how they got on the Cascade Bicycle Club website as a suggested hotel!
Also, I am being told that other hotels in Bellingham have assumed the same policy, which proves to be true, when you check the Roadway Inn down the street.
I don’t know, but if this event is supposed to continue, this will have to be addressed. How about Cascades contacts the hotels and tells them that a second ride will come through the next day? And if they want to take advantage of that, then they should very quickly revise their policy.
Wow, I am disheartened by the dirth of negative comments but encouraged by the reasonable and understanding comments by others. Certainly there is frustration when something like this happens. However, are the threats of “crashing the ride” and withdrawing support of the club necessary? Is it necessary to make such derogatory comments about the organization? It seems likely that there were poor choices made regarding the registration process. I have been a wee bit frustrated about the “no transfer” policy change. However, I can understand why this might be necessary. People and organizations do make errors. I know this because I am probably about as imperfect as anyone. I for one appreciate it when I am given an opportunity to correct my mistakes. It seems prudent for Cascade to take time to make sure that their response is correct and doesn’t create additional problems that would result, we can only assume, in another onslaught of negative comments. There is a reason why so many people try to participate in Cascade events… they are well organized and fun. I have ridden the STP several times and I always marvel at the amount of work that must go into organizing the ride. It seems that there are some folks out there that need to go out for a ride and chill.
I”m sorry but you could have separated the event registration days so there wouldn’t have been that mess. I got on my computer at the time to register for your Glacier Park tour and it took me three hours to do it.
