Do you ride on Mercer Island, or across it? The Mercer Island Rotary sponsored Runs/Walks will be on Sunday, Mar. 25, and we recommend cyclists avoid riding on the island that day. The half marathon walk and run will loop the island and the shorter events will be jamming up North Mercer Way as well.

Here’s a little more info from the race organizers:
The I-90 bike/pedestrian trail on Mercer Island between East Mercer Way to Island Crest Way will be closed from 7am – 12pm. No bicycles will be allowed on the this portion of the trail during these times, even if there are few/no race participants visible on the trail at any particular moment. This is a safety related focus for both riders and runners and the decision to close the trail was made jointly by the race leaders, Mercer Island City, and the Mercer Island Police Dept. It’s a decision that was carefully made and not taken lightly, we feel the potential for injury far outweighs the inconvenience.
The east end of the I-90 bridge and the Lid Park trails will be closed in two locations: a) On the I-90 bridge portion, from the trail connecting to 60th Ave through the intersection with West Mercer Way: and
b) Over the Lid Park from West Mercer Way along the southern trail portion east of the summit to 76th Ave SE.
Both trail portions will be closed from 8:50 – 9:45am, although the closure on the east end of the I-90 bridge may not be closed for the whole time, depending on when the surge comes through.
