The Ballard Business Appellants that continue to file lawsuits stalling this project are primarily Salmon Bay Sand and Gravel, Ballard Oil, and the Ballard Chamber of Commerce.
I've dreamt of riding up and down on Shilshole Avenue slowly, taking the lane, with a sign that said “Tell Salmon Bay Sand and Gravel to stop fighting the Burke Gilman Trail”, or something like that.
The Ballard Seafood Fest is sponsored by the C of C, their big event, and Warren Aakervick, the owner of Ballard Oil mans the BBQ Salmon Booth. That is an event and location to picket; of course, not until next summer.

I've watched a number of bikers catch and crash on those railroad tracks, and I'd love to know who is obstructing the finish of the trail. It's time to take the fight directly to the problem--pickets, boycotts, whatever is needed to let them know they don't dictate my safety or lack thereof.

As a long time Ballardite, I too am enraged that this small handful has been able to delay the project. However, I often also wonder, has the SDOT really proceeded properly? They keep getting shot down in court, usually for lack of performing a task. Environmental Impact Statements, level of design, etc. Can't they figure out what is needed, and do it?

If it hasn't already been tried, perhaps it's time for a more confrontational approach; such as...

direct picketing and protests blocking access to businesses,

and/or an organized email campaign as well as "social media" publicity against/about said businesses.

They need to be made to realize that their neighbors (Ballard community) and customer base are opposed to their position and actions.

Just pursuing the "proper" legal approach hasn't/isn't working.
