Free bike maintenance classes coming to a library near you

The Seattle Public Library is teaming up with The Bikery – an all-volunteer run, non-profit, community bike that provides people with the tools and resources to learn how to fix bicycles – to bring free bike maintenance classes to a library near you.

Taking place at various branches during the month of October, the classes will provide an introduction into basic bicycle parts and bicycle maintenance.

Learn how to clean a rusty chain and more!

This class will start you on your journey toward understanding your bicycle.

This program is part of the 2012 Urban Self-Reliance Series which offers a range of free classes from Backyard Composting to costume repair throughout the month of October.

The bike maintenance classes will kick of this Saturday, Oct. 6, from noon until 2 p.m. at the Ballard Branch, 5614 22nd Ave. N.W.

Two more bike maintenance classes will take place the following week:

- Saturday, Oct. 13. Noon to 2 p.m. at the Rainier Beach Branch, 9125 Rainier Ave. S

- Sunday, Oct. 14. 1 to 3 p.m. at the Douglass-Truth Branch, 2300 E. Yesler Way
