Wanting to increase the number of bike-based work trips by 20 percent in the next 20 years, the Dutch government has implemented a Green Roads strategy and is starting to look at innovative ways to save money while making bicycling safer and more attractive.

This is cool. Though perhaps the best we can expect here is for people not to put tacks on the bike paths…

WARNING CYCLISTS: ROAD TACKING !!!
On the bike path near Pioneer Sq., behind the railroad tracks … the one that is fenced on both sides and close to the tunnel construction, someone has intentionally placed about 50 metal thumb tacks with the business end facing up; perfectly poised to create multiple punctures! Last night I picked up two tacks! Tonight several cyclists were on the side repairing their flat tires. We were able to clean up as many of the tacks as we could find but there might be more or more may be put out. Be careful!
