I hate to break your heart like this on Valentine’s Day, but the 2013 Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic is now sold out.
Don’t despair! We have some options:
Trade your time for a bib
First, you can start volunteering to earn a spot. Volunteers who clock 24 hours with us can earn registrations for STP (and our other events, too). Helping with Cascade events or in the office is a great way to get involved in your community and keep Cascade running smoothly. Email Diana Larson for information about our volunteer opportunities.
Group Health Fitness Network has spots
UPDATE: Group Health tickets are sold out!
The title sponsor Group Health has reserved entries for Group Health staff and members. Please visit www.GroupHealthFitnessNetwork.com for more information.
Bid for registrations on eBay and support a great cause
[2/20 update] A limited amount of ten Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic registrations will be up for auction on eBay. The first auctions will be open on Monday, March 11 at 12:01 p.m. We’ll continue opening two auctions per week with bidding on the final registrations closing in mid-April.
All eBay auction winners will receive a coveted low bib number. We’re also throwing in free food and beverages at the Finish Line Festival in Portland. Plus, the amount of any amount beyond the standard online registration fee is a tax-deductible donation to the Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation, so you can feel good about spending a few extra bucks.
Or, take a completely different route…
Ride to Bellingham
June 29
Ride in June and ride for a reason! The World Bicycle Relief Red-Bell 100 is a fully-supported century on low-traffic road and trail riding through beautiful rural countryside. The best part, though, is that you’ll be pedaling in support of two great organizations: Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation and World Bicycle Relief.
Cascade’s youth programming reaches 25,000 local kids per year! World Bicycle Relief just distributed their 90,000th lifechanging transport style bicycle in Africa this year. This exciting partnership and ride offers participants a true way to affect direct change though their support and giving. And, you get a jersey.
Don’t stop there, ride all the way to Vancouver
Aug. 17 – 18
In August, we’re heading to Vancouver for the RSVP. If you’re not familiar with this ride, it’s a two-day event from Seattle to Vancouver, with a stop-over in Bellingham. The Friday/Saturday event is closed, but we still have spots open for Saturday/Sunday. Come Ride from Seattle to Vancouver, BC and Party with us!
The heck with it all, go touring
From Aug. 3 – 10, it’s Pines to Vines on the 15th annual Ride Around Washington. RAW is a week-long, fully-supported camping tour produced for cyclists, by cyclists. The RAW Committee is proud of the variety and beauty of cycling routes in every corner Washington.
Your bags are transported from campsite to campsite, so you can ride light. Meals, showers and road support are part of the deal. This tour is limited to 250, so get on it before it’s sold out.
Or, take it a bit further afield with our Regional Club Tours. We’re going to Central California, Central Washington, Oregon and more.
And if you REALLY want to get away, our upcoming International Tours are heading to Japan, Czech Republic, India, Chile, Argentina and Vietnam.

@cascadebicycle how about I just volunteer at the finish line. I can look all sweaty just standing there.
@cascadebicycle np a bunch of my colleagues are going! Have fun!

I live in Bend,OR. I rode last year, would like to ride again this year, but did not realize the registration was already closed. If people decide not to ride & turn their #,s back in, is there a list for people to get that number? If so, I would like to be on that list. Thanks, Rick Hanson
No wait list and it is highly unlikely that there will be enough cancellations for it to reopen in June. The following are your options:

When is the auction for the remaining spots for the STP
Will there be a waiting list? I signed up, but my husband did not get in.
Sorry Lamar, obviously you already typed “No waiting list” multiple times. I get it!
Hi There,
My father-in-law and brother-in-law already registered, however I’ve been traveling and unable to register until today. Unfortunately, I see the ride is sold out. I live in San Francisco, so I’m unable to volunteer. Can you please please help?
Thanks,
Mike
I don’t believe that any laws would be broken if you just show up and ride along with friends or family during this event. Clearly everyone had good intentions on being a paying/registered rider but are now unable to due to registration being closed so early this year. I believe last year they didn’t sell out untl the 22nd of February. Another option is to watch your local craigslist cloesely. I spotted a few last year from people who had something come up and were going to be unable to attend. Is this legit? Are there any rules against purchasing a registration from someone who isn’t going to be able to attend?
Yes, it’s crazy that a 10,000-person bicycling event sells out as fast as it does. We do our best to announce the opening of registration and let the community know when the event reaches 80% and counting.
We expanded our RSVP event, doubling the number of riders that could attend this popular event. You should consider riding the Saturday/Sunday RSVP or Red-Bell or Flying Wheels.
Expanding STP beyond the 10k already offered is just not in the cards right now. It’s an enormous feat to pull off an event of this size. If more people decide to crash the event, it does jeopardize it for everyone. It makes the event less fun for the volunteers and less safe for the participants and less enjoyable to the communities we ride through.
The auction is coming up in March: http://blog.cascade.org/2013/02/bid-for-stp-registrations-and-support-a-great-cause/
Monika, I’m curious whey you didn’t register your husband at the same time you did.
Registrations are not transferable. Buying them elsewhere — just as with marathon bibs and other event bibs — is not OK. And it’s not really not fair to these people.
We do have a refund policy: https://shop.cascade.org/content/events/refund-policy. Last year, STP re-opened briefly in June. We will again promote the re-opening date, should enough registrations be returned to do so. Look for that on our blog, in our newsletter, on Facebook and on Twitter.
As much as we would love to have unlimited number of registrants, we simply cannot. Thank you for understanding. The STP will be here next year, and the year after that and so on. We very, very much look forward to welcoming you on a future ride.

I have a single ticket, but now am thinking about doing the ride on a tandem, can I get a second ticket for my stoker?
email the registrar, kim.thompson@cascadebicycleclub.org , with your request
the only options for tickets at this time are the Ebay auction (4 tickets left) or volunteering.
Can i do the STP without registration, a good friend of mine signed up and i was heart broken to find out it is closed, we want to do this before we part ways before college? any help or tips thanks
see MJ Kelly’s post above. if you do decide to ride with your friend, you both need to plan on using “rest stops” other than the official ones, which will make it a different experience.
Crashing an event is not cool to those who paid and are expecting SAG support. There is nothing worse than showing up to a SAG and finding they are out of what you need due to selfish poachers. Just sayin…
Why aren’t registrations transferable? My friend’s riding partner bailed, due to wrist surgery, ruining training rides, so now friend has to ride “alone” or cancel.
Can people start farther down the road, say in Castle Rock area, to cut mileage?

about five years ago the present “Refund/No Transfer Policy” was adopted when the logistics and volume of transfers became overwhelming. in our litigious world it’s not as simple as a rider just selling or giving away their registration to another rider.
registered riders can start anywhere; but, riders starting from Centralia/Chehalis and south should start after 12 on saturday or on sunday if they wish to use Cascade’s rest stops.
The roads on the route are public roads. And no one can be impeded from riding on those public roads. If someone just wants to ride their bike along the route on those days, why should they pay someone for the privilege? Just ride.
From a previous reply:
“If more people decide to crash the event, it does jeopardize it for everyone. It makes the event less fun for the volunteers and less safe for the participants and less enjoyable to the communities we ride through.”
yes, they are public roads, but there are 364 other days and 51 other weekends — download the route/cue sheet and ride on one of them.
