Cascade kicks off 40th anniversary celebration at the Seattle Bike Expo!

Thursday, March 25th, 2010 by

In its 21 years of existence, the Seattle Bicycle Expo has certainly had its ups and downs, plus a fair share of location changes. In 2010, the show moved to the new cruise facility located in Magnolia, a fabulous building with 135,000 square feet of show space on two floors. Vendors, volunteers and attendees alike all seemed to agree…this year’s Expo turned out to be “one of the very best ever.”

The 9,300 strong attendee list marveled at magnificent 280 degree views of Elliott Bay and Mount Rainier, whilst enjoying three palatial lounges to relax, stay awhile and catch up with their cycling buddies. Maybe it was the astounding array of top class vendors, easy access to the venue by bike or top notch facilities inside the venue…but folks seemed to linger more than ever and took full advantage of this wonderful space.

The world class entertainment line-up helped to inflate the crowd’s energy level to all time highs… and what can you say about the stupendous one-two punch of Canadian trials rider Ryan Leech and the artistic cyclists together in the Performance Arena? Stefan Musu, Lukas Matla and Corrina Hein, the three young German superstars, wowed standing room-only crowds all weekend with acts layered withathleticism, grace and sheer beauty. It was kind of like being able to enjoy both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones on the very same ticket!

Lords of the “Old School” come to Seattle Bicycle Expo

Friday, March 5th, 2010 by

These are not merely bikes – they’re works of art, hand-built just as they have been since the 1920s. If you’re a sucker for classic steel construction, beautiful details, and tasteful paint jobs, be sure to join us at Seattle Bicycle Expo, Mach 13 and 14.

We’re flying in master builder Ken Taylor of Jack Taylor Cycles in Britain. At 84, Ken spent 54 years perfecting the art of framebuilding with his brothers, Jack and Norman, who started the family business together in 1930. Their legendary bicycles have stood the test of time, and are still sought-after in the United States and England.

Joining Ken on stage for the Classic Framebuilders’ Panel will be legendary Seattle master frame builders, Bill Davidson and Glenn Ericksen. Find out what makes a great custom frame, and learn about the revival of framebuilding from three of the very best in the business. This lively discussion will be moderated by Jan Heine, editor of Bicycle Quarterly.

Later that day, Ken will talk about racing, touring and building bikes in England in the 1940s and 1950s on the REI Stage. Don’t miss this chance to hear from THE lord of old-school frame-building.

While you’re at the show be sure to drop by the Classic Bike Show, featuring the largest display of Jack Taylor bicycles ever assembled in North America.

Get ready for your big ride

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010 by

We hear all the time from people who think they can’t ride centuries, who say they’re slow and won’t ever get faster, who don’t have riding partners to up the ante and stick to a training program. All is not lost, my friends. The next evening in the Cascade Presentation Series on Tuesday, March 9 could be just for you.

For the first 30  minutes you will get all the skinny on the Cascade Training Series (CTS). Now in its tenth year, this weekly, multi-paced training series is designed to prepare you physically for STP, RSVP, RAW or your own personal riding goals. CTS is the “Rolls Royce” of training programs and remarkably still 100% free.  The series starts in late March. We’ll take questions and have handouts at the show.

Then at 7:30 p.m. join Coach Craig Undem and other coaches from Cycle University for 60 minutes of informative, entertaining and inspirational programming. This presentation is a must-see presentation  for anyone looking at finding their Clear Path to the next level and riding with confidence on that big ride this season. Topics will include nutrition, proper training techniques, tools to help your mental game and good stories. As an ex-professional racer on dirt and pavement (even racing with Lance) Craig has ridden and coached with “the stars”… but on this night he’ll share tips on making YOU a “star” in your 2010 season.
