Got what it takes to do 50 miles with 2600 feet of elevation gain at a brisk pace?

Then you’re ready to do the Camano Island Loop!

Camano Island — the island you can drive to — is one of the area’s best kept secrets.  Join ride leader James Coliz  for a brisk ride leaving Heritage Park in Stanwood at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 31.

Be sure to bring along a snack and extra water, as options on the island are limited.  Check Meetup for updates prior to the ride, or contact James at rider.x@coliz.com.

Racing the Clock

Alas,  Daylight Savings Time has graced us with her presence once again, giving us more time in the evenings for riding!  And for the last 15 years, Eric Gunnerson and his entourage have been doing just that – riding in the evening that is.

Join the next Eastside Tours Evening Ride on Thursday, March 14, starting from the Overlake Transit Center (15590 NE 36th St., Redmond).  This ride kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at a brisk pace of 16-18mph and tackles every hill they come upon – usually about 1500ft worth of elevation gain. Participants regroup at the top of each hill.  Lights are required for this ride.  Showers cancel…but there will always be next week, when we will have gained 3 more minutes of daylight.

Got questions?  Call Eric at 425.753.6032, or check the ride listing.

It’s a perfect 10!

What’s your idea of a perfect ride? A great route?  Manageable pace?  Challenging but not overwhelming?  Well, I think you’ll have it all with David Bordewick on this perfect leisurely-paced ride on Friday, March 8.  New and slower riders are welcome on this 30-mile urban ride through downtown Seattle with a West Seattle lunch destination.

If evening works better for you on Friday, Jeff is starting from Matthews Beach at 6:30 p.m., and taking a leisurely 15-mile ride north on the Burke-Gilman. This is a good ride for newer riders to learn about after-dark riding skills. Front and back lights are required.

You can even do both!

Leisurely-paced rides are 10-12 mph on the flats, figuring you’ll be a little slower up the hills, and a little faster down them. There are no cue sheets, so the groups will stay together, taking the hills slowly and regrouping as necessary.

If you haven’t been on your bike yet this year, here’s your opportunity to get in some miles and smiles!

Everyone is welcome on Cascade Rides, but if you are new, please read the Information for Newcomers and Parents.

‘Do the lake loop’ with Daly

50 miles around the lake - are you up for it?

I flew into Seattle for my job interview on a sunny day, and looked down upon Lake Washington as we descended.  The young lady sitting beside me, a Seattle local, said, “there’s a bike path marked so you can ride all the way around the lake.” From the air, the ride’s length seemed formidable.  But one day I set out with a friend to do it, and it quickly became one of my favorite rides.

Have you ‘done the lake loop’ yet?

Join ride Leader Craig Daly on Saturday, March 2, to complete the 50-mile loop at a brisk (16-18mph) pace.  The ride starts at Renton’s Linear Park in Renton at 9 a.m.  The ride will regroup frequently and there will be a coffee stop  halfway through the ride.

Calling all brisk riders to join Lico Enriquez  this Saturday, Feb  23, for a ride through Renton’s neighborhoods and back roads.  Everyone’s welcome to practice their Spanish and make new friends on this 49 kilometer morning ride (that’s 30 miles for us non-metric types).

The ride starts at Renton’s Old City Hall, 200 Mill Avenue S, at 9 a.m. There’s no sweep, so please make sure your bike is in good shape, and carry a cue sheet.

I can’t be there, but can someone teach me how to say “On your left” in Spanish?
