Promote the commute!

Friday, February 1st, 2013 by

Cascade Bicycle Club is an enthusiastic promoter of bike commuting. We produce programs such as the Commute Challenge in May (last year’s had over 12,000 participants!). The Cascade Bicycle Ambassador team is another way that the Club supports commuting by bike; these friendly and knowledgeable bicycle enthusiasts attend events all over Seattle to answer questions about starting to ride, route-finding, gear, and more. Cascade promotes bicycling at business-sponsored transportation fairs and health fairs: over 52 in 2012! Ambassadors also run frequent “Energizer Stations”, designed to support people on bikes by providing maps, lubing chains, pumping up tires, and more.

The Ambassadors bring our work back to the community, and in turn inform the Club about how to improve what we do.

Are you passionate about commuting by bike? Want to inform others about a healthy, economical, and environmentally friendly way to get to and from work? Share your tricks of the trade with new commuters, and let car commuters know what they’re missing! Commuting, in addition to a number of other topics, is part of the expansive knowledge of the Cascade Bicycle Ambassadors. And now you have an opportunity to become one!

New to bicycling and excited about it?

Monday, January 21st, 2013 by

Are you “new-ish” to bicycling and want to let others in on your secret to a positive attitude, healthy habits, and thousands of dollars saved every year? Do you find yourself telling others “You can do it, too?”

If this describes you, know that Cascade Bicycle Club is not only for the experienced cyclist! The Club wants to empower those who are interested in riding with the tools and information to do so. Cascade offers a number of classes, including Urban Cycling Techniques, whose topics include bike fit, traffic laws, and gear recommendations, and is designed to make the rider feel safer in traffic. Also, our reduced-cost helmet program is an affordable way to keep your noggin intact!

A crucial part of the Club’s outreach, the Cascade Bicycle Ambassadors offer advice all year to those with questions about:

  • Information on types of bicycles
  • Where to purchase a bicycle
  • How to navigate bike shops
  • Necessary gear
  • Safe routes to ride on
  • And more!

If you want to make a positive impact on your community and have discovered a love of bicycling, join Cascade Bicycle Club as a Bicycle Ambassador! You’ll be working to increase the public awareness of the Club, bicycling programs, and safety issues, not to mention enthusiasm!
